Skipping replacement in certain documents

The {{skip}} power-up can be used in Merge workflows to replace the matched text in documents created from certain rows, but not others.

Typing {{skip}} (and nothing else) in the Replace with: cell will skip the instruction β€” i.e., the matched text will not be replaced.

Document Generation

This is useful in Merge workflows, where you want to replace the matched text in the documents created from certain rows, but not others.

To apply the "Skip if Empty" setting across the entire table and all documents, click the Editing Options button in the turnsheet toolbar and select Skip if Empty.
To skip empty cells in a single column only, click the three dots next to that column, choose Edit Column, then open Editing Options and select Skip if Empty.

Mass Editing

This can also be used in Find & Replace workflows, where it can be useful when you want to include a placeholder in the Find what: field during your drafting process, but the Replace with: term is still TBD and you want to leave the placeholder in the document as-is for now.

Global editing options for all columns/rows can be set by clicking the Editing Options button in the turnsheet toolbar. To apply it only for one specific row, hover one the first cell of the row and use the Open row options then on the right click the Editing options and select "Skip if empty".

Note: The special text sequences in this article can be found in the Power Ups menu in your turnsheets. You can use power-ups in your Find & Replace Find column, Merge column headings, and in any Text type columns (they won't work in Rich Text columns).

Example

Document:

The series A shares have a nominal value of [nominal value] per share.

Instruction:

Find what: [nominal value]
Replace with: {{skip}}

Note: In a Merge workflow, "Find what:" is your column heading, and "Replace with:" is the row content.

Result:

The series A shares have a nominal value of [nominal value] per share.
