Editing options

Options like "Match case" and "Find whole words only" control the text that's matched and replaced in your documents.

Turnsheet editing options are generally named in the same way as Microsoft Word's Find and Replace options, so they will be familiar to you if you have used Find and Replace in Word before. In general, an editing option will have the same effect on the editing instruction as the corresponding Word option would have on a Find and Replace operation.

Global editing options for all columns/rows can be set by clicking the Editing Options button in the turnsheet toolbar.

Editing options for individual columns/rows can be set as follows:

To check the editing options of a column/row quickly, just hover your mouse over it until a tooltip appears displaying the current settings.

Match case

If enabled, O&D performs a case-sensitive search for the Find what: text in your documents. If disabled, the search is case insensitive.

This option also affects the case of the Replace with: when it is inserted into your documents. If enabled, the case will not be changed. If disabled, the case will be changed in each instance to match the case of the found text in the document.

Example

Document:

Dragon dragon DRAGON

Instruction:

1. Find what: dragon
Replace with: knight
Match case: Yes

2. Find what: dragon
Replace with: knight
Match case? No

Note: In a Merge workflow, "Find what:" is your column heading, and "Replace with:" is the row content.

Result:

1. Dragon knight DRAGON
2. Knight knight KNIGHT

Find whole words only

If enabled, O&D will not replace the Find what: text when it is part of another word.

Example

Document:

drag dragon

Instruction:

1. Find what: drag
Replace with: wag
Find whole word only: Yes

2. Find what: drag
Replace with: wag
Find whole word only: No

Note: In a Merge workflow, "Find what:" is your column heading, and "Replace with:" is the row content.

Result:

1. wag dragon
2. wag wagon

Ignore white space characters

If enabled, O&D will ignore extra white-space characters (spaces, tabs) when searching for the Find what: text in your documents.

It is often helpful to enable this option when the Find what: text consists of multiple words, since leaving extra space between words is a common typo in documents.

Example

Document:

dragon drag on

Instruction:

1. Find what: dragon
Replace with: knight
Ignore white space characters: Yes

2. Find what: dragon
Replace with: knight
Ignore white-space characters: No

3. Find what: drag on
Replace with: knight
Ignore white-space characters: Yes

Note: In a Merge workflow, "Find what:" is your column heading, and "Replace with:" is the row content.

Result:

1. knight knight
2. knight drag on
3. dragon knight

Ignore punctuation characters

If enabled, O&D will ignore extra punctuation characters when searching for the Find what: text in your documents.

Enabling this option helps resolve differences in localization (e.g., Mr. Smith vs Mr Smith) and spelling of abbreviations (e.g., U.K. vs UK) and company names (e.g., Company, Inc. vs Company Inc.).

Example

Document:

Dragons, Inc.
Dragons Inc.

Instruction:

1. Find what: Dragons Inc.
Replace with: Knights Ltd.
Ignore punctuation characters: Yes

2. Find what: Dragons Inc.
Replace with: Knights Ltd.
Ignore punctuation characters: No

3. Find what: Dragons, Inc.
Replace with: Knights Ltd.
Ignore punctuation characters: Yes

Note: In a Merge workflow, "Find what:" is your column heading, and "Replace with:" is the row content.

Result:

1. Knights Ltd.
Knights Ltd.

2. Dragons, Inc.
Knights Ltd.

3. Knights Ltd.
Dragons Inc.

Remove all formatting

When enabled, O&D will remove all formatting, such as bold, italics, font size changes, and more, when searching for Find what: text in your documents. This enables a cleaner and more efficient editing experience. It eliminates the need to manually adjust or modify formatting styles, making it easier to restructure, rephrase, or enhance your documents.

Skip if Empty

When enabled, empty cells in turnsheets or forms will leave the placeholder or existing content as-is in the document instead of deleting it. This is useful when creating templates and forms to automate first drafts, where you may want empty cells or form-fields to leave the placeholder in the document as-is.
